Our Story

Hi. James here – one of the owners of the Lotus Tree. After all these years, many of you know me already, of course. But for those who’ve just discovered The Lotus Tree, let me explain how it all began nearly 25 years ago now. My partner and I stumbled across Montclus, a picture-postcard-perfect village in the heart of rural southern France, virtually by chance. We were looking for traditional stone-built houses surrounded by miles of unspoilt countryside – and that’s exactly what we found in Montclus – a gorgeous village which has now been declared one of the most beautiful in the whole of France.

Outside Paris, we were the first gay guesthouse to open our doors back in 2001. And we’re still here after all these years – still offering lower prices than our competitors and enjoying a far superior location. Just look at our photos and drone footage – we’re not located in a town hemmed in by nosy neighbours on all sides – we’re rural and proud of it.

That means you’ve got plenty of space to do your thing. Lots of guys choose to stay at The Lotus Tree because it’s easy to be naked – you can sunbathe by the pool or in our extensive garden. Unlike other venues, our secluded grounds are just that – private and not overlooked. No need to cramp your style when you stay with us – you choose what works for you.

Because we’re not in a town, crammed in by other houses and brick walls, we’ve got big, cinemascope views. In fact, every guest who stays with us falls in love with our view of medieval Montclus, backed by wooded hillsides and the gently meandering waters of the Cèze river, whose church and ruined 12th century château are floodlit every evening. It really is as beautiful as it sounds.

Arpad & Nuno

Many of you already know Arpad and Nuno, our guys who look after you whilst you’re with us. Arpad has been with us for many years now, around half of our time in Montclus, in fact, and has become a firm favourite with our guests. Equally delightful, Nuno, is always on hand to welcome you to your room and explain how everything works. Together, they make a great team and we’re proud to say they work for The Lotus Tree.
